Kristyne E. Kennedy

Kristyne Kennedy is a civil litigation attorney in the Orlando office of Cole, Scott & Kissane, P.A. She has more than eleven years of experience practicing employment law, including litigation, trial experience and providing clients with legal advice and counseling. Much of her practice is devoted to employment litigation and responding to administrative agencies investigating employer practices. She also provides clients with legal advice and counseling regarding employer policies and various workplace law issues, emphasizing preventive practices. Ms. Kennedy earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Central Florida in 1992 and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1999. While attending University of Miami, she focused her studies on Labor and Employment Law and served as a Legal Intern in the Miami District Office of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Ms. Kennedy is an active member of the Orange County Bar Association (“OCBA”), serving on the OCBA's Executive Council since 2006. She is currently serving as immediate past president of the OCBA. She has also served on boards of other organizations, including the Central Florida Human Resources Association, OCBA Foundation, and OCBA Legal Aid Society. Ms. Kennedy’s other professional memberships include the Central Florida Association for Women Lawyers, Paul C. Perkins Bar Association, and Society for Human Resource Management. She is admitted to practice in all Florida federal and state courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

The Hon. John M. Kest

Judge Kest has been a Circuit Judge since 2003, serving in the Juvenile, Felony and Circuit Civil Divisions in Orange and Osceola Counties. Before taking the bench, he had a distinguished legal career for thirty years as a Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer, handling complex personal injury, medical malpractice and products liability litigation, representing primarily plaintiffs. He has served as President of the American Board of Trial Advocates and he served for 5 years on The Florida Bar Board of Governors.

Since being elected to the Bench, Judge Kest has served as Co-Chair of the Education Committee of the Florida Conference of Circuit Judges (FCCJ). He has attended and completed the faculty training program enabling him to teach at judicial conferences throughout the country. Judge Kest has served on the faculty at each of the Circuit Judges' conference since taking the Bench in 2003, has taught at the Advanced Judicial Studies Colleges (AJS), and regularly teaches at the New Judges' College. He is also the Director of the Statewide Judicial Mentoring Program charged with mentoring all newly elected or appointed judges during their first year on the Bench. Judge Kest has also developed and presents a monthly Brown Bag series of seminars for young lawyers on topics that appear to be problematic for lawyers commencing their practice.

More recently in 2010 he was named the “Trial Judge of the Year” by the Central Florida Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Judge Kest was also named as the 2010 Distinguished Alumnus by the Florida State University College of Law. In 2011 he was presented with “The James G. Glazebrook Memorial Bar Service Award” for professionalism on the Bench by the Orange County Bar Association. Also, on June 9, 2011, Judge Kest received the highest award given by the George C. Young First Central Florida American Inns of Court Award for “fostering Professionalism, Ethics and Civility in the practice of law.” At the Annual Florida Bar Convention in Orlando in late June, he was named the Outstanding Jurist of the Year for 2011 by the Young Lawyers Section of The Florida Bar. READ MORE.
